우리 motherland 인 한국에 대해서 소개하는 법이나 재밌는 소개법을 적어볼게요!
1. Korean Age (한국 나이)
올해부터 한국에서 만으로 나이를 바꾸기 전까지는 미국 사람들이 한국 나이랑 미국 나이의 컨셉을 되게 신기해하고, 재밌어하더라고요. 그래서 한국 나이에 대한 토크법 적어봅니다.
- Did you know that up until this year, Korea had a different system for calculating someone's age? 올해전까진 한국이 한 사람의 나이를 측정하는 법이 달랐단거 알고 있었어?
- My Korean age always used to be a year to two years older than my American age. 내 한국 나이는 내 미국 나이 (만으로 세는 나이)보다도 항상 1~2년정도 많았어.
- So when the baby was born, baby was considered to be a year old already. 애기가 태어났을때, 애기가 벌써 한살로 간주됬어.
- In America, the baby becomes a year old on his or her first birthday. 미국에서는 아기가 자기 첫 생일날 한살이 되지.
2. 한국 고등학교의/고등학생의 빡센 교육 문화
- In Korea, every high school student attends additional classes at private academies after school. 한국에서는 모든 고등학교 학생들이 학교 마치고도 학원에 있는 추가 수업을 들으러가.
- Students in Korea are very academically motivated than students in here. 한국에 있는 학생들은 여기 있는 학생들 보다 (미국 학생들) 더 학구열이 높아.
- Korean SAT's held only once a year. Every senior in Korea has to take this Korean SAT on the same date every year. 한국 수능은 (미국식 수능이 SAT라서, Korean SAT하면 수능 혹은 대학에 진학하려고 보는 시험으로 받아들여짐) 일년에 한번씩만 열려. 한국에 있는 모든 고3 (고등학생중 졸업반 학생들) 들은 이 수능을 매년 다 같은 날에 봐야해.
- If you don't do well on Korean SAT, you have to wait another year to retake it. 한국 수능을 잘 못보면, 일년을 더 기다려서 다시 봐야해.
- Parents in Korea spend about $300 per month to pay for their kids' tutoring and private academies. 한국에 있는 부모님들은 한달에 30만원 정도를 그 자녀들을 과외시키고 학원보내는데 쓴데.
3. 개고기
- In the old days, Koreans used to eat dog meat. Nowadays/ in modern times, a lot of people own pets so they don't do that anymore. 옛날 시절에는 한국 사람들이 개고기 먹기도 했어. 최근에는 많은 사람들이 애완동물이 있어서 더이상 그렇지 않아.
4. 혈액형
- Koreans are obsessed with the blood types. 한국 사람들은 혈액형에 집착해/관심이 많아. They believe that your blood type affects your personality. 한국 사람들은 너의 혈액형이 너의 성격에 영향을 준다고 믿어.
5. 술 문화
- Koreans love drinking. 한국 사람들은 술마시는걸 좋아해. Koreans usually drink beers and soju. 한국사람들은 보통 맥주랑 소주를 마셔.
- In Korea, when you go drinking with someone older than you, you are supposed to wait until the elderly drinks first. 한국에선 너보다 나이 많은 사람과 같이 술마시러 가면, 너는 연장자가 먼저 마실때까지 기다려야해.
- When you're drinking in front of an elderly person, you have to turn to sideway and drink. 너보다 나이 많은 사람과 같이 술 마시면은, 고개를 옆으로 돌리고 마셔야해.
6. 강남
- Do you know the song Gangnam Style? 너 강남스타일이라는 노래 아니? Gangnam is the richest/wealtheist area in Seoul. 강남은 서울에서 제일 부자/잘사는 동네야.
- There are a lot of plastic surgery offices in Gangnam. 강남에 정말 많은 성형수술 오피스가 있어. In Gangnam subway station, you will see so many advertisements about different plastic surgery practices. 강남 지하철역에 보면 정말 많은 성형수술 광고를 볼거야.
- A lot of tourists go clubbing in Gangnam. 많은 여행자들이 강남에 클럽가.
7. 이름 성 (last name)
- In Korea, women don't change their last names when they get married. 한국에선 여자들이 결혼할때 이름 성 안바꿔.
- The most common Korean last names are Kim, Lee and Park. 제일 흔한 한국 성은 김씨, 이씨 박씨야.
- Except very few exceptions, almost all Korean last names have one syllable. 아주 몇개 예외를 제하고는, 거의 모든 한국 성들은 다 한 음자야.
- A lot of Korean names are based on Chinese characters. 많은 한국 이름들은 한자로 되어있어.
8. 한국 기업들 (Korean companies)
- Well-known Korean companies are Samsung, Hyundai and LG. 제일 잘 알려진 한국 기업은 삼성, 현대 그리고 LG야.
- A lot of job seekers in Korea try to get into big companies like Samsung because of better pay and benefits. 한국에 있는 많은 구직자들이 더 좋은 보수와 베네핏을 받으려고 삼성같은 큰 기업에 들어가려고해.
9. 일본과의 관계
- Korea used to be colonized by Japan for about 35 years until 1945. 한국은 일본에게 식민지로 35년간 1945년까지 지배받았어.
- In those times, a lot of Korean women were kidnapped by Japanese soldiers to be used as sex slaves against their own wills. 그 시절에는 많은 한국 여성들이 일본 군인들에게 납치되어서 강제로 성적 노예 (위안부)로 쓰였어. Japanese government never officially acknowledged that and apologized. 일본 정부에선 한번도 그걸 정식으로 인정하고 사과하지 않았어. A lot of Korean people are still quite upset about this issue. 많은 한국인들이 아직도 이 이슈로 인해서 마음이 언짢아/화가 났어.
10. 야근 문화
- A lot of Koreans work overtime (혹은 a lot of Koreans work past their office hours) but not actually get paid the overtime pay. 많은 한국인들이 근무시간 이상으로 일해/ 야근을 하는데 overtime pay (미국에선 일주일에 40시간 이상 일하면 40시간 이상은 1.5배의 보수 = overtime pay를 받습니다) 를 받진 않아.
- Korean companies' culture is different than here's.한국 직장 문화는 미국이랑 달라. If your boss is still working, you are not supposed to leave earlier than her/him. 너의 보스가 아직도 일하고 있으면, 너는 보스보다 일찍 떠나면 안되.
11. 존댓말
- In Korea, when you talk to someone older than you, you have to use a certain formal speech. 한국에선 너보다 나이 많은 사람에게 말걸때, 존댓말을 써야해.
12. 신발 벗기
- When you enter Korean homes, you are supposed to take off shoes. 한국 집에 들어갈때면 신발 벗고 들어가야해.
13. K-pop 케이팝
- There are lots of Korean idol groups. 엄청 많은 한국 아이돌 그룹이 있어. The most popular Korean artist is BTS. 제일 유명한 한국 가수는 BTS야.
- There are a lot of good-looking and talented Korean artists. 이쁘고/잘생기고 실력까지 좋은 한국 아티스트는 많아.
14. 한국 음식
- When you go to Korean restaurants, they will serve you with main dish with many side dishes. 한국 음식점에 가면 주문한 메인 요리 외에도 많은 반찬들이 나올거야.
- Korean food is so good. 한국 음식 정말 맛있어. You should definitely try Korean street food. 당연히 한국 길거리 음식을 맛봐야해.
- Korean food is generally spicy. 한국 음식은 대체적으로 매워.
